Club Med all-inclusive chalets and the progression of the modern ski holiday
August 18, 2019
In recent history there have been some incredible inventions, improvements and progression made in terms of skiing and ski holidays, such as fog-free goggles and advances in avalanche safety. The invention of the deployable airbag has been groundbreaking, it increases a skier’s float and it inflates bringing them to the top of a life-threatening avalanche, something with genuine life saving capability. Some inventions however, have not quite been as inspired, with ski failures such as backcountry snowblades, not exactly an optimum shape for floating above that hard earned powder!
Since the concept of skiing came about there has of course been natural progression; from the materials used, the invention of the spring-loaded binding and shape optimisation, ski equipment has come on leaps and bounds as well as advances with piste bashing and chairlifts, and most recently the widely recognised safety advantages of helmets.
Is there a new concept developing in skiing and for future ski holidays? Whilst not groundbreaking, a very welcome innovation has entered the ski market for winter 2019-20: all-inclusive luxury chalet-apartments, where the privacy of a chalet is combined with an all-inclusive hotel. This comes to the French Alps in the form of the brand new Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon Chalet-Apartments. Club Med’s Alpine offerings have thus far been all-inclusive hotels (with the exception of the Valmorel Chalets, which feel more like an extension of the Valmorel Hotel), however as part of Club Med’s drive to a better quality and higher end product these luxurious all-inclusive chalet-apartments are an exciting prospect.
From the 22nd of December 2019 the Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon Chalet-Apartments open their doors to guests and offer a unique combination of private chalet accommodation with all-inclusive board. This isn’t a reinvention as such but an enhancement of the traditional chalet holiday, where guests have access to all of the facilities of the Club Med Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon hotel but can return to their own chalet at the end of each day’s skiing by skiing back to the door. The chalet-apartments have their own privately dedicated resort, just a stone’s throw away from the hotel.
Guests of the all-inclusive chalets get to enjoy breakfast in the intimacy of their private chalet with their chalet host bringing freshly prepared continental breakfasts to them daily and clearing up, once you’ve skied out from the door to explore the Grand Massif ski domain. Dine in the comfort of your own chalet or sample one of the three restaurants in the hotel. Choose rom the delightful buffet dining at the Cozy Mountain restaurant, à la carte meals at the Skyline Gourmet Lounge and family-friendly meals at the Family Experience restaurant. Make use of the indoor or outdoor swimming pools and fitness centre, alternatively book a treatment at the Carita Paris spa or relax with a drink at the bar.
This is the ultimate way to enjoy a skiing holiday. Guests of the Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon Chalet-Apartments can choose to include flights and transfers and have all-inclusive meals and drinks, full area lift passes, ski lessons and guiding, and childcare from four years and up included with childcare available from four months at an additional charge. This holiday is ideal and perfectly suited to small groups, families and extended families.
