Covering a large area of the eastern side of the Okavango Delta, the Moremi Game Reserve is not a national park, which enables the local BaSarwa to stay in the reserve, also an advantage of the Game Reserve is that it is typically quieter than a national park.
With a rich range of habitats and wildlife, despite its relatively small size, the Moremi really packs a punch with its startling contrasting landscapes, from thick woodlands home to leopards to floodplains and lagoons teeming with life. The Moremi was set aside and protected as a Game Reserve by Chief Moremi’s widow whose concern was growing at the decimation of wildlife due to poaching, the land was designated a reserve in 1963.
Integrating within the Okavango Delta and with the Chobe National Park means that a huge continuous area of protection is reserved for the high numbers of wildlife, whether you choose to explore on foot, by 4×4 or Mokoro Canoe the Moremi provides in abundance.
