Rwanda might be landlocked but that’s not to say there are not beautiful shorelines and sandy beaches to relax on. Lake Kivu is one of the Great Lakes of Africa, approximately 90 kilometres in length by 50 kilometres wide, sitting on the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and offering a truly sumptuous retreat after tracing the gorillas of Volcanoes National Park or exploring all that Kigali has to offer.
Lake Kivu is a wonderful place to relax, with beautiful views in all directions and pretty settlements along the banks, the deep waters result in changing hues of blue and allow for fishing, canoeing and swimming in the clear water (it is hippopotamus and crocodile free importantly!)
Kibuye is the main resort along the lake, a beachside city to enjoy, but it is also worth taking a journey from Kibuye to view the beautiful nearby Les Chutes de Ndaba beautiful waterfalls which fall from 100m above.
